James Woods’ tweet launches a meme about terrible statues

On Monday, protesters in Durham, North Carolina, tore down the statue of a Confederate soldier. After it fell to the ground, people cheered and began kicking it, the Herald Sun reported. The image of the broken statue soon became a meme.

Many people saw the broken statue as a victory—especially after this weekend’s events in Charlottesville, Virginia. But not actor James Woods, who was offended that protesters tore down the statue. He thinks people (specifically, #liberals) will tear down the Marine Corps War Memorial in Arlington, Virginia, a statue that is dedicated to all Marines who have lost their lives fighting wars.

Woods could not see the difference between the Confederate soldier statue and the war memorial, and people on Twitter were quick to criticize him. His words about wanting to show a statue “one more time” before liberals got to it turned into another meme.

The meme is a great way to showcase some of the worst, and funniest, sculptures in existence.

Apparently there is a whole market for creepy animal/creature sculptures.

This is a weird one.

This statue seems to promote kicking babies.

Even modern artist Jeff Koons isn’t safe from being meme’d.

Remember the “scary Lucille Ball” statue?

One person used the meme to remind the internet of the terrible wax figure that was intended to look like Beyoncé. It ended up looking like an entirely different person.

So many eyesores! If anyone wants to tear down a statue, there are several problematic options. But, sorry Woods, it’s highly unlikely that protesters are planning to tear down a WWII memorial.
